The air was cool and crisp as Addysyn stepped out of the black car, landing herself in front of the infamous Truman University. Her home away from home for the past two years. The chilled autumn air was a contrast to the humid, tropical air of Fiji, where she had spent her summer vacationing with her family. As much as Addy loved the beach and getting away, she always welcomed the fall semester and the chance to get away from her dysfunctional family.
Addysyn grabbed her Louis Vuitton luggage from the driver, offering the young man a flirtatious smile and wink. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear she turned and faced the entrance to the massive, extravagant campus that would now become her home.
"Let's do this," she mumbled under her breath before heading up the steps to the main living quarters of the university.
Her heals clicked on the pavement as she made her way into the building, nodding kindly at the staff as she made her way through the halls. The living quarters of Truman University were set up like a high end hotel. Only the best for New York's most elite -- they wouldn't tolerate any less. At any other college campus her room would change frequently and she wouldn't know where she would be staying. Not here. In the two years her room had never changed. Her parents had secured her the most ostentatious penthouse suite the university had to offer before she had even made it through primary school. "Only the best for the future trauma surgeon," her father would always chirp.
After an elevator ride and winding hallways, Addysyn finally made it to the front door of her apartment. Pulling out the credit card style key she slid it through the lock and stepped through the door and into a large, welcome marble foyer. The 3,000 square foot suite was fully equipped with a master bedroom and bath complete with a walk-in shower and elegant, clawfoot tub. A separate living area contained a fully stocked wet bar and refrigerator. The entire living space was decorated in opulent detail with spectacular views of the entire campus.
Addysyn made her way to her room where she haphazardly threw her bag on her bed and pulled her phone from the back pocket of her jeans. It had been a long three months away from her best friend, Scarlett, and she was getting impatient. They had so much to catch up on and she was curious to hear how her summer had played out.
'The fuck are you? xo ' her text read. She quickly sent it and made her way to her beloved bar and fridge, pouring herself a glass of expensive moscato to sip while she waited on a response from her BFF.

Scarlett grinned as she read the text from her life long best friend, Addysyn. Three months had proven to be far too long without her partner in crime and she was anxious to get the school year started. "Calm your tits, I'll be there in a few. xo" She typed before setting her phone back into her black Chanel handbag. Her mother had insisted on taking her out to brunch and escorting her to the campus of Truman University, which had caused them to run a little behind schedule. Scarlett didn't object to her mom wanting to spend some time together since she spent a majority of the break away from her family off in Northern Italy, soaking up the sun and meeting foreign boys. It was the least she could do. After all, it couldn't be easy being married to one of the most powerful men in New York City.
"Have a wonderful school year, darling." Her mother said, sending Scarlett off with a hug and a light kiss on the cheek. She made her way up the stairs and approached the large building that she would now call home. Smiling as a young man opened the door for her, she stepped into the extensive lobby and made her way to the elevators. "Ok, we have A LOT to talk about. Going to my room to freshen up then I'm coming over." Her text to her BFF read. The elevator made a light sounding ding before the doors opened. Pressing the button for the top floor, Scarlett waited anxiously to make it to her apartment. Her room was in one of the extravagant penthouse apartments that Truman University had to offer for society's elite citizens. Of course, Scarlett occupied the suite next to Addy. She had insisted and, as usual, Scarlett's father complied. He ensured her that everything was taken care of and she would have one of the best penthouse suites the campus had to offer. She had been accustomed to getting her way; her parents had the money and wanted the absolute best for their daughter.
The elevator doors slid open and Scarlett made her way down the hallway, swiped her key through the sensor, and opened the door into her apartment that had been hers since she first attended Truman University. Noticing that the rest of her luggage had been placed at the foot of her California king bed, she set her purse beside it and made her way into the master bathroom. Looking at herself in the mirror, she brushed her fingers through her windblown hair and attempted to bring it back to her perfectly styled waves.
"Jet lag does not suit you," She mumbled to herself as she grabbed her purse and made her way out the door and down the hallway where Addy's room was. Stopping at her room, she knocked rapidly, suddenly hit with a rush of excitement at seeing her best friend.

A high pitched chirp from her phone alerted Addysyn to an incoming text. Picking it up she glanced at the screen before rolling her eyes at the message and setting her phone on the counter.
"Bitch, better hurry up," she grumbled to herself before pulling out a second wine glass. She knew Scarlett would never turn down a drink offer. It just was not the thing to do. Alcohol was a commodity. Addysyn was never known for any amount of patience, so it was a relief to hear the sound of knocking on her apartment door. Grabbing the extra glass of wine Addy made her way to the front door, suddenly becoming overcome with buzz of elation at finally seeing her best friend.
She stopped short of the door, glancing in a mirror that hung just in her foyer to make sure she looked okay. She ran a finger under her eyes, wiping away any make-up that had smeared and ran her fingers through her hair. Appearance meant everything in NYC and there was no mercy given to those that looked ghastly.
Throwing the door open she squealed with excitement at seeing her friend standing there and threw herself at her, wrapping her arm around her in a warm hug.
"Finally!" she shrieked, holding her friend back at arms length, her eyes looked her up and down, taking in her appearance. "You look great, come in."
"This is for you," she offered, holding up the wine glass before setting it on the table at the entrance to her apartment and turning to head back into the main living quarters in search of her own wine glass.
"Tell me all about your summer!" she called out, taking another sip of her wine.

Expensive wine, a new school year, and now her best friend in the same room as her after months without seeing each other. What more could a girl want? "It has been too long!" she squealed as she stepped into the room, grabbing her glass of wine. Addy knew her too well. Both girls were huge supporters of the theory that wine goes with everything, especially gossiping.
Scarlett walked further into the room, sitting down and making herself comfortable on a cream colored sofa. "You would NOT believe my summer," she said, taking a sip of her wine before continuing on, "I stayed at one of my parents condos in Northern Italy. My time consisted of nothing but the beach, boos, and Italian boys." She waggled her eyebrows at her BFF. Surely this wouldn't be a surprise to Addysyn, even people who barely talked to Scarlett knew that she was notorious for her bedroom rendezvous. What else was there to say? The girl wasn't a believer in depriving herself of the finer things in life.
"Anyways," she went on, taking yet another sip of wine,"what about you? Tell me all about it!"

Following her friend's lead, Addysyn joined her in the living room. Kicking her heels off she lowered herself into a matching cream colored lounge chair across from Scarlett, tucking one leg underneath her. She nodded her head as she listened to Scarlett go on about her summer in Italy. Addysyn always wanted to go to Rome, and made a mental note to bring up the future vacation destination.
"Actually, I can believe that was your summer," Addy chuckled, taking another sip of her wine. "I don't think you've ever gone on a vacation without being invaded by the local hotties." It was no secret that Scar kept herself happy in the bedroom department. And Addy had no issues with that. Part of keeping a girl happy meant multiple orgasms and steamy trysts with attractive men.
Addy thought back to her summer in Fiji. She spent many days on the beach, soaking up the therapeutic rays of the South Pacific or floating on the lagoons of Viti Levu. It was peaceful and much needed R&R. Minus the part where she was forced to socialize with her defective family. Her parents kept up appearances in the public eye, but anyone that was close to the family knew that her parents had various sexual encounters with other individuals. This made for awkward family holidays.
"My vacation was the usual," she sighed, bringing herself back to the present. Thinking about the drama fueled her desire to drink and she took a gulp of her wine, successfully finishing the first of many glasses for the day. "My parents fought continuously, of course. But, outside of that it was awesome. Fiji is gorgeous and relaxing. Though the local men left a lot to be desired. Fortunately, there were plenty of vacationers that were more than capable of meeting my needs."
Holding up her empty glass, Addy stood. "Need a refill?" she asked, heading to the bar to grab the whole bottle.

Scarlett sat on the sofa, her legs crossed comfortably in front of her. She nodded in sympathy to her friend's family woes, understanding completely what it was like. Although the elite families put up appearances, that's all it ever is. Power does that to you. Throughout the years Scarlett had learned about the ongoing scandals within the Sinclair family and acted as a drinking buddy for Addy once they were old enough to learn the healing powers of alcohol. It was more effective than crying or talking about their issues anyways.
She scrunched her nose in disgust as Addy told her about the local's lack of performance in the bedroom, but was relieved to hear that she found some fellow tourists that were able to pick up the slack. She laughed in response, holding up her glass and finishing off her wine.
Her eyes followed Addy as she got up from the lounge chair, offering Scarlett more wine. "I think you know the answer to that!" Scarlett chimed, uncrossing her legs and scooting closer to the edge of the sofa. She eyed the bottle as Addysyn brought it out. There's one tell tale sign that a person is a true Van Allan: they don't get hang overs. That must be why they make great alcoholics. Scarlett brushed away the thought, eager for the buzz that the second glass will bring.

After pouring herself a second glass Addy refilled Scarlett's before setting the bottle on the black marble coffee table between them. No gossip session was complete without consuming at least one bottle of wine.
"Are you ready for the school year?" Addy questioned.
Going into their junior year of college it was a miracle any of them had lasted this long. School was not something that Addysyn took seriously and most of her good grades were obtained through money, manipulation and having intimate exchanges with her professors. A degree from Truman was just another status symbol. It wasn't like she needed the degree or a career, she had every intention of living off her trust fund. She simply went to Truman because that was what was expected of her. And it was one of the stipulations to continuing to have access to her money.

His generous donations aren't made for status, but because he actually cares. Many call him a bleeding heart and laugh at his desire to promote the welfare of others. Maximus is kind and caring, to the point that it becomes a flaw. He puts others before himself, and this oftentimes leaves him hurt. Quirks: He's a wanderer. Max's father and older brother are both graduates of Truman University, so a lot of expected of him as they both went on to become successful businessmen. Friends: Due to his differing views from most of Truman's attendees Max is mostly a lone wolf and keeps to himself.

Scarlett picked up her refilled glass of wine from the coffee table as she contemplated her friend's question. Was she ready for the school year? On one hand, it was always nice to be away from her family. Truman U had grown into a place she could call home over the past two years, and the drama here was much preferred over the drama at home. With Scarlett's father constantly away on business or simply too preoccupied to give a damn, her mother had become erratic, relying on boos to ease the pain that was her life. There would be times when her mother would binge on alcohol for days at a time, throwing anything she could get her hands on and cursing Scarlett while in a fit of drunken rage. Then there were the days after, where she acted completely content with her life and annoyingly clingy towards Scarlet, her "pride and joy". It was exhausting to say the least.
On the second hand, it was clear academia was not Scarlett's forte. It was simply the thing to do when you belong to one of New York's elite families. She couldn't remember the last time she opened a textbook or even showed up to class not hungover. Scarlett and Addy's main focus throughout their academic career had consisted of the stereotypical college experience...minus the homework.
Placing her wine back on the coffee table, Scarlett leaned back against the sofa as she crossed her arms and said, "Please, I'm so over this academia bullshit. I mean what's the point?" Scarlett shook her head, annoyed at the thought. "Regardless, this year should be fun. I have Xavier in the palm of my hand. Didn't reply to a single text of his this summer." She giggled, if there was one thing she loved the most it was watching men bend at her will. Xavier and Scarlett had an on again off again fling since high school; She thought of him as one of her more sentimental conquests.

The black limousine was spotless, free from grime or residue. The chauffeur opened the door and I casually slide into the leather seats, covering my porcelain legs with the burgundy dress, making sure it didn't fall too short. My black boots came up to the knee, with slightly higher socks. The door was shut swiftly and before I knew it, the chauffeur was driving. My eyes scanned the buildings through the tinted windows. Every house was of modern edifice, with windows that were long and vast, spanning each side of the structure. The streets were supposed to be littered with trash, but there was not a single scrap to be found. The limousine kept driving on the newly paved road, until drifting to a stop. Truman University. The anatomy of the building was unlike any other i have seen. The roof was towering, and yet, it curved into an arch. Windows panned every aspect of the building, so much that I wondered how anyone could have any privacy. The grounds were ringed with intricate hedges, all immaculately trimmed with not a single flaw in its design. Within the hedges, students loiter encircling themselves with cliques, participating in almost every trivial act, from passing a cigarette down to take a drag or feasting their eyes upon the new prey, which also happens to be me. I never thought guys could be so well dressed, almost everyone in Armani and Clavin Klein. Nobody was unkempt in any way.
I didn't realize I had been gaping at the institution until the chauffeur cleared his throat and motions to the now open door. My feet move automatically, stepping onto the pavement and taking the bags handed to me. Most of my possessions were already sent here so i wouldn't have to haul them through the grounds. I bite my lip and tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. Ready. I hope. I start to briskly walk, avoiding the groups of gossiping students. I check my phone to see a text from David. 'How is the new school going? Found any cool coffee shops?' I shake my head and my mouth slightly upturns, hearing from my best friend already making my day better. "I feel like a caterpillar surrounded by butterflies!!! You need to kidnap me so I can finally leave! If you want a good coffee shop, we have to go to Blue Bird Coffee Shop when you come to kidnap me!' I chuckled to myself under my breath and proceed to walk until i feel my phone vibrate. 'Tell me the time and where and you can check the kidnapping off your list! Oh, and just to let you know, caterpillars grow into butterflies'
I drop my phone into my plain black purse and try not to think about what David said. i am pretty sure i will stay a caterpillar here. I continue to tread to the front desk. The girl was definitely not happy with her job. Bags hung under her eyes and stray tendrils of hair spilled from her bun. Her clothes were disheveled and wrinkled, obviously had a rough morning. "Name?" "Eden Griffin." She slides me a plastic card. The key. "Top floor. Room 2." " Okay. Thank you." I turn and head toward the most isolated elevator. The doors take no time to open and then I am in. I press the highest number and the elevator starts to ascend, taking its slow and leisurely time. Finally, the doors open and i walk out, heading to the door with a '2' laid on the door. My card slips through the slot and i try to open to door. Locked. Maybe I just put the card in wrong. I pulled the card through the slot again and tried the door. Still locked. What is going on? I start jangling the door. Maybe its just a bit jammed or something. I continue to shake it until i feel a tap on my shoulder.

Addy chuckled quietly. Scarlett was right, there truly was no point to school other than gaining another status symbol. She rolled her eyes when Scar brought up Xavier and their relationship. They were always the subject of gossip among students throughout the years. Even the adults had taken to questioning if they would end up married down the line. Even Addysyn wondered, but for the time it seemed that it was just another game between the two of them. Not that Addy could fault Scarlett, Xavier was nice to look at.
Finishing her second glass of wine Addy reached for the bottle to finish it off. "Sounds like it's going to be a repeat of last year then; games, men, shopping, alcohol and parties. Just as it should be."
"Speaking of parties, we need to plan a welcome mixer," she decided. Parties and events were her and Scarlett's thing. They were known for hosting the most over the top, extravagant parties. Of course, it helped that they grew up with parents that also knew how to throw the best festivities. And having access to only the best catering and event planning staff. "What do you think about tonight? Think we could pull it off?"
Without waiting for a reply Addy stood, a little too fast for how much wine she had already consumed, but she righted herself quickly. Slipping her heels back on she headed to the front of the apartment. "Let's go, if we're going to do this we need to do it now."
